Subject: Latest B’Day Ball info
Hello one and all:

This is the very latest I have on the Ball info. At the risk of scooping myself in the next issue of the newsletter, I  thought better to get it out soonest.
when they open for reservations, I’ll lpass the word on to call in and mail in to 55th Wing Protocol.
Cheers and VO, Max

The 40th 55th Wing Birthday Ball is scheduled for Saturday, 22 September at the Century Link Center in Omaha, to be hosted by Colonel Michael Manion, 55th Wing Commander, and his wife, Shannon.

The Offutt Top Three Association (Senior NCOs) will again have the responsibility for planning the event ‘going forward’, under the lineage direction of the 55th Wing Command Chief and 55th Wing Commander.

Although the references are to the Air Force Ball, this arrangement does insure a major 55th presence. Plus, the 55th Wing Hall of Fame inductees and the 55th Wing Association Award for Excellence presentations will be on the program.

Affable Dave Webber, Omaha TV personality, will be the MC for the ninth year. He served four year in the SAC HQ Elite Guard back in the day.

Guest speaker slated is CMSgt  Mark  Hurst. He  is currently serving as Command Chief of the 552nd Air Control Wing (E-3, Sentry AWACS),  Tinker AFB, OK; and is a member of the AF Tactical Air Control Party by specialty. This gent is a warrior.

In 2004, during his fifth combat tour to the Iraq and Afghanistan region, his team was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan, leaving him with severe shrapnel wounds to the face and body, resulting in the loss of his left eye.

After recovery, he requested a waiver and worked to remain qualified to serve in the combat zone.  He was successful and served multiple times in Iraq and Afghanistan due to his commitment to duty and country. Additionally, the Chief has earned the Army Ranger tab and is a qualified combat parachutist.

Ticket prices for the Ball have yet to be determined pending the amount of donations and fund raising efforts to keep the cost as low as possible.

Hilton Omaha Hotel, across from the Century Link Center, has a block of 100 rooms for the night of 22 September at the discount rate of $99, plus taxes, but the reservation code had not been issued by press time. Military rate to hold a room is $109, +taxes, and can be adjusted later. (I have already done this)

Reservation phone direct is 402-998-3400

Captain Keith Saylors, USSTRATCOM Elite Guard, Ops Officer, 55th Security Forces Sqd, and MSgt Paul Erickson55th Contracting Sqd, are co-chairs for Offutt’s largest formal social function of the year.

Here is the photo of the group taken at Prez Joe’s social.
More there than at some reunions, a quorum, even.

On Sat. April 7th at the SAC Museum 55th WA President Joe Spivey presented a wreath on the Assn’s behalf at the RAF 100th Anniversary ceremony.
Sq Ldr Adrian, Ken Bauer and Mike Hoskins took it from the SAC Museum following the afternoon festivities and placed it at Lt Jarvis Offutt’s Omaha gravesite.  VERY appropriate—and nice touch.
