Taps-  Medford

                 Samuel Widd Medford, Sr.
It is with deep sadness that need to inform you of the passing of my father, Samuel Widd Medford, Sr.
Widd was born in Durango, Colorado, on April 5, 1937, as the only child to Sam and Esther Medford.. Upon graduation from high school in 1955, Widd attended college, then joined the USAF from 1959 to 1965. While in the Air Force,  he flew RB-47s and  earned two Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross.   Along with so many others, he fought the Cold War in relative obscurity.  However,  due to his and others’ sacrifice,  his grandchildren now only read about the Cold War in their history books.
Samuel Widd Medford went to be with Jesus in the early hours of May 8, 2017, with family by his side. He is survived by his son Widd Jr. and his wife, Launa, son Brad and his wife, Julie, daughter, Deanna, and seven grandchildren; Brennan, Andrew, Ryan, Haley, Marchet, Allie and Tyler.
He will be laid to rest in the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery.

Widd and I were crewed at Forbes from 1959 until Sept 1963. He left the AF for a career with TransWorld Airlines. He once told me he rarely thought of TWA after he retired, but often fondly recalled his days with the 55th SRW.
Really Good guy.  Lived in Austin,  TX. No obit in paper as yet, but it could not be better than the one by his son.

Widd is second from left. Taken Oct 1962, Incirlik AB, Turkey
