One of our former 55th crewmembers and comrades wrote a fascinating article in the March 2014 issue of JED (The Journal of Electronic Defense), the magazine published by the Association of Old crows. The title of the aricle is “EW History: Air Defense Radars and Linebacker II”.

I highly recommend it to all current and former members of the 55th as it provides an excellent history of early warning radars (WW II SCR-584, “Whiff) and how the Soviets reverse engineered the SCR-584 to develop the SA-2 (SAM) system employed against us in Viet Nam.
Dave served as an EW in the RB-47H program at Forbes and later served as an EW in the B-66 jamming mission in Viet Nam.

What a magnificent job you are doing with the web site. I have followed it for the past 10 years and it is something to behold. Thank you for the gallant men of the Fighter Group and Air Service Group.

Thanks for your kind words Jim.  I've been very busy of late and not kept my updates on the site as regular as I would have liked, but have now got some more free time and am hoping to play catch-up.  We also have the Nuthampstead Airfield Museum opening within the next 12 months, so it's exciting times over here in the UK.  If I can ever help with enquiries, or scans of WW2 material, please let me know.  I've been lucky in that vets and their families have shared an awful lot with me over the last decade and I feel I ought to continue to share it as and when I can.  I'm also available to show any of the Wing Association members around Nuthampstead if there's ever a request.  I can point out the former aircraft disperals for the 38th, 338th and 343rd which goes down well with those that served more recently in those squadrons.
Thanks again,
